The paper focuses on the debate among ethnographers over what ethnography should look like, how it should be done, how it should be presented, and what the goals should be. Through a review of literature, it finds that this does not necessarily change the methods ethnographers use for collecting data; those are relatively clear-cut and have remained relatively consistent over time. However, the methodological issues at the core of ethnographic research, the theories on what are and what are not good methods often appear messy and difficult to comprehend to the beginners. This paper is an attempt to make an understanding of ethnographic research as a useful practice to ascertain pragmatic knowledge.
